Vox Telepreneur slashes telephone costs for businesses and home users

Johannesburg, 14 Oct 2008

Vox Telepreneur, a division of South Africa's leading alternative telecommunications company Vox Telecom, has launched a telephony solution that promises to slash call costs for small businesses, home offices and families by up to 50% and pay rebates on calls received.

The basic Vox ADSL Phone product includes a wireless ADSL router, wireless handset and an 087 telephone number. There are options to add additional handsets or to purchase the Vox ADSL PBX which has up to eight extensions, with automatic least-cost routing included.

“We offer great savings on outbound calls and we give customers cash back for calls made to them from landlines or cellphones” says Vox Telecom CEO Douglas Reed. “On top of that, Vox to Vox calls are free. Homes and small businesses have the opportunity to save up to 50% a month on their call costs, but that could go even higher if they are making a lot of long-distance or international calls”.

Reed says some of the earliest adopters of the Vox Telepreneur solution have been national business with many small regional offices that need to stay in touch. “For example, we had one client with 65 branch offices and only two or three employees in each. They were too small to qualify for special deals or least-cost routing equipment from any of the big corporate service providers, but they were spending a fortune on sales calls and inter-branch calls. Putting all those branch offices on the Vox network dropped the cost of those calls to zero.”

The same benefits apply to households, says Reed. “If you want to keep in touch with friends and family scattered around the country, you can do it for free if you get everyone on to the Vox network - or at least get big savings on the calls you make.”

The Vox ADSL Phone costs R49 a month, with an initial setup fee of R300, and there are no long-term contracts. “If people find after a couple of months that they're not getting the savings they hoped for, all it takes is one phone call to cancel the service at a month's notice,” says Reed. “But for anybody with call costs of between R200 and R6 000 a month, we'd be surprised if we can't offer real savings.”

Customers must have an ADSL line from Telkom to use the Vox ADSL Phone, but Vox will help customers through the application process. “Most urban exchanges have now been upgraded to ADSL and people can get their lines in as little as 48 hours, although it can take longer in small towns and rural areas. As soon as the ADSL line is activated, the customer can plug in the Vox phone and start using it. We've had little old ladies of 80 do the whole installation themselves with no problem”.

Vox Telepreneur also offers business opportunities for those who would like to become dealers as well as customers, with an innovative network marketing model that can help to supplement people's income, or even become a sustainable, stand-alone business.
