VSc wins DTI Technology Innovation Award

VSc Solutions announced as the winner of the DTI`s Support Programme for Industrial Innovation (SPII) in the Large Companies category for the development of a world class route compliance management tool and dashboard.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) introduced the Support Programme for Industrial Innovation (SPII) in 1993. The programme is designed to promote and assist technology development in the South African industry through the provision of financial assistance for projects that develop innovative products and/or processes.

In 2004, VSc applied to the DTI for funding to develop a route compliance management tool and dashboard which could integrate into any planning tool and any tracking system. Funding of R1,5 million was granted on the basis that the proposed project was innovative and unique.

The SPII projects are typically evaluated three years after completion as a major portion of the success is measured by the revenue that is generated by the project. Earlier this year, VSc was contacted by the DTI to provide feedback on the project and review its performance to date. VSc was then notified that it had been selected as one of three finalists in the Large Companies category.

In a gala event held on 31 October 2008 and attended by the Free State Province Acting Premier Mr TS Belot, the Provincial Acting MEC for Tourism, Environmental and Economic Affairs Mr M. Dukwana and the acting executive Mayor for the Mangaung Local Municipality Ms Eva Moilwa, VSc`s route compliance system was awarded first place. The award was presented to VSc`s development team by the DTI`s Deputy Minister Elizabeth Thabethe.

VSc Solutions is proud to be recognised by the DTI for our contribution to improving South Africa`s reputation as a leader in world class technology and innovation. CEO David Levin comments, "the success of this project can be measured by the fact that VSc`s route compliance system is now operational in over 9 countries and has helped us turn our mobile business into a global player."
