Wacom appoints Comztek as exclusive South African distributor

Wacom, the market leader in pen-based digital imaging technology, has appointed IT systems and communications distributor Comztek as its exclusive South African representative.

Comztek will distribute and support the entire Wacom consumer and professional product ranges, including the entry-level Volito2, PenPartner and Graphire3 Bluetooth series. Comztek will also distribute the Intuos3 pen tablet system and the new Cintiq 21UX interactive pen display.

"Comztek is our partner of choice thanks to its extensive dealer network and excellent vendor relations," says Davoud Motallebi, area sales manager for Wacom Middle East and Africa.

"Our goal is to increase Wacom`s presence in the South African market by utilising Comztek`s market expertise and strong presence in the government, financial and medical sectors. This is the perfect base from which to introduce Wacom`s current and future product solutions to SA," he says.

Comztek will provide its resellers with a comprehensive pre- and post-sales service, and technical backup support.

Jacques Pieters, Wacom business development manager at Comztek, says the Wacom digital pen tablet range is ideally suited to the needs of digital photographers, video professionals, graphic designers and illustrators.

Wacom products have been designed to be used as an integral part of various software applications, including Adobe and Microsoft, which Comztek also distributes and supports, Apple, Corel, Macromedia and Quark. There are certain functions in applications such as Adobe Photoshop that are only accessible with a pen tablet.

"Wacom has focused on developing and promoting the pen as a means to facilitate creativity in graphics. While the scope of Wacom`s success is wider than this field alone, the company`s achievement in graphics clearly illustrates its competence and vision," Pieters concludes.

Wacom

Wacom is a global company with its parent company, Wacom Company Ltd, based in Japan and subsidiaries in Europe (Wacom Europe GmbH) and Northern America (Wacom Technology Corporation) among others.

Founded in 1983, Wacom has established itself as the market leader for pen tablets and is a pioneer in the development of the pen as an input device for computers. The company`s aim is to make working with the computer more ergonomic and natural, therefore making it easier to open a broader field of applications. The ethos behind this vision is to create the most harmonious environment possible for the user and his technical equipment.

In Europe, Wacom supplies five product lines under its own brand name: PenPartner, Volito, Graphire, Intuos and Cintiq. The cord- and battery-less input devices of these products are based on Wacom`s patented electromagnetic resonance technology, called `Penabled`. For years now `Penabled` technology has proven itself for use in graphics tablets and LCD-tablets. The company also offers its products as OEM business to all manufacturers of PCs and Macintosh computers.

Wacom is the leader in the field of pen and sensor technology - most Tablet PCs based on Microsoft work using this technology. In the future, `Penabled` technology will play a leading role in the development of mobile devices such as smart phones and PDAs.
