Wall-Mart buys app firm
Mashable reports.
Financial terms were not disclosed in an announcement on the retail giant's @WalmartLabs blog earlier Wednesday.
“As we got to know the Small Society founders, they impressed us with their understanding of mobile platforms, their passion for building great products, and their awareness of the unique opportunities for mobile in the retail space,” Supermarket News quotes Paul Cousineau, VP of mobile products for Walmart.com, as writing in a post on the WalmartLabs blog.
“We believe that mobile can have an impact on every part of the shopping experience for Wal-Mart customers, whether in-store or online,” added Cousineau.
According to The San Francisco Chronicle, the group has launched a classic iPhone and iPad shopping app and one called ShopCat for Facebook users.
ShopCat scans Facebook friends' profiles to recommend gifts for them from Wal-Mart, RedEnvelope, Barnes & Noble and ThinkGeek.
