Wandile Bereng appointed as Director at Ubuntu Group.

Johannesburg, 17 Sep 2008

On the 17th July 2008, Wandile Bereng was appointed Director of Business Development for the Ubuntu Group. This truly remarkable achievement was underpinned by the valuable expertise, approach and professionalism Wandile brings to the group.

Looking back, Bereng has had an illustrious career in the ICT sector having worked for organisations such as Sanlam, Intec Telecom Systems and SchlumbergerSema. After graduating from UCT in computer science and psychology in 1998, Bereng began his career as a programmer and then moved into a more specialised field of developing billing systems, which later evolved into the role of Analyst Developer on GSM provisioning technologies.

In 2002, Bereng took the plunge and moved from the Mother City to Gauteng where he also furthered his studies through the Unisa Graduate School of Business Leadership focusing on project management. These studies moved him into managing IT projects.

According to Peter Adams, CEO of the Ubuntu Group; Wandile's depth of expertise and hard pressed values system made him a perfect candidate. “He started the Networking Division of the Group (Ubuntu Networks) in 2006 and in just two short years the company has seen a 70% growth rate year-on-year.”

Says Bereng; “The Ubuntu Group has developed a strong reputation for delivering solutions that meet customer business requirements and set the benchmark for excellence in the ICT industry. Our dependability supports our assurance of quality and our commitment to customer flexibility and this is demonstrated in the exceptional growth of Ubuntu Networks. I certainly look forward to continuing to lead this business into the future and intend to continue to focus my energies on driving value for customers.”

In his new Director role, Wandile will continue to manage the Ubuntu Networks business while extending his responsibilities to include identifying and driving business development opportunities across the entire Group. “I am excited about my new role. I have an 'all hands on deck' approach to this business and look forward to providing valuable input at director level. I see myself as a fresh 'set of eyes' for business development opportunities for the Group and I plan to learn over the next 12 month period to really deliver extended value to the business and our customers,” adds Bereng.

Despite his outstanding achievements, Wandile displays a humility that continuously reminds him of the wealth of knowledge that exists on the director level at the Ubuntu Group and he quickly acknowledges his excitement around having access to such knowledge. “I look forward to my new challenges and believe that I have the greatest opportunity to learn from our current executive team that has not only been instrumental in building the business, but truly drive the company's ongoing industry expertise.”

Wandile says he identifies strongly with the Ubuntu Group business. “This is a company that is focused on and upholds a firm belief in a moral and ethical outlook - for its staff and all its business undertakings.”

Stephen Stroh, Executive Director at the Ubuntu Group adds; “Initiative is an attribute that is rewarded within the group and Wandile is an outstandingexample of this. His drive, dedication and expertise are greatly valued within the Group and we applaud his achievements and welcome him onto the board of directors.”
