There is a new multimedia hardware distributor on the scene called Warisan, a word of Indonesian origin meaning "legacy". Johan Steyn, the company`s director, says the plan is "to make service our biggest asset" and so the company`s legacy.
"There are gaps in the multimedia market for smaller companies," Steyn says. "We have identified some of these gaps and secured products to fill them." He adds that the company wishes to offer consumers and the channel an alternative to current multimedia distributors.
The company has three directors. Clive Anderson, who has been involved in the local IT distribution market for 21 years, founded and owned Super Diamond Computers, which was the sole authorised distributor for the Creative Labs product range in SA for a number of years.
Chris Anderson and Steyn were involved in product management, marketing and sales of the Creative product range as well as a host of other products at MMW.
Warisan plans to be involved in Web design and e-commerce initiatives into the future, as well as niched products like PDAs and WAP devices. It has secured a new US-based PDA distributorship and plans to soon make a big slash with its product set.
"We are in the process of finalising a number of other deals," says Steyn, "and these include products like CD-RW, scanners, sound and graphics."
