Warisan Technology (Pty) Ltd announced today that they will distribute the new TravelScan from Olivision, Inc., a leading developer of scanning technology. It is the lightest, easy-to-use portable scanner on the market today.
With its compact footprint design, transporting TravelScan couldn`t be easier. Weighing just l0 ounces, and measuring l.5" high by l.5" wide and 11" long, TravelScan fits comfortably into a notebook bag. Connecting through the PCMCIA Slot, users will be pleased to learn that the TravelScan doesn`t require bulky power adapters, batteries or heavy parallel-port connectors, making it the perfect lightweight traveling companion for use away from the office.
Users can be rest assured they may scan documents and color photos then fax, email or store paperwork on their notebook using minimal computer electrical power. In fact, the power requirements are so slight that TravelScan uses just one six-hundredth (l/600th) of computer electrical power. To put this in perspective, the same amount of battery power is required to open, edit, and save a typical Microsoft Word file as it takes to scan more than 40 pages of text using TravelScan.
TravelScan takes desktop scanner quality to the road
TravelScan is set to redefine the portable color sheet-fed scanning market by providing the quality and capabilities users take for granted in a desktop scanner by offering the same high standards of performance in a sleek, lightweight portable scanner.
Color images and documents can be scanned with brilliant, saturated colors in 24 or 32-bit per pixel. Switching to Photo or Optical Character Recognition (OCR) scanning is simple: just click the icon and it will scan automatically.
Olivision offers TravelScan with a VisionScan utility and Sprint Fine Reader 4.0, a powerful CD-ROM application that makes it possible to capture documents anywhere. The information can then be stored on disk, or if the OCR mode is utilized, saved as a Microsoft Word document.
"Until now, portable scanner users were faced with the prospect of packing a heavy, clumsy array of equipment every time they needed to scan documents or photos away from their traditional office environment," says Chris Anderson, director at Warisan "With TravelScan, they just slip it into their notebook bag and head out the door. The fact that it`s powered through a PCMCIA card means that they don`t need to worry about a power supply, battery pack or battery charging device, which makes off-site scanning even easier," said Anderson.
"We`re predicting that most TravelScan users - whether they`re researchers, lawyers or students --will find the system so compact, they will just keep it in their bag as a permanent fixture, so it`s always there when they need it," he added.
