Cape Town-based IT solutions provider, NHA, is proving yet again that flexibility and innovation are key to clinching multimillion-rand contracts. The renewed five-year contract with one of SA`s oldest and most respected independent scheme administration companies, BESTmed, confirms that well managed information technology is imperative to a company`s future.

"BESTmed services over 22 000 families in SA and is committed to ensuring the outstanding service our clients have come to know and expect," says Dries La Grange, CEO of BESTmed. "It makes good business sense to leave IT to the people who first understand the intricacies of our business and then work to add value through technology innovation. And NHA supports our need for flexibility through impressive product innovation."

Web Mail, for example, is proof of such innovation. Although some of BESTmed`s members do not have access to the , most of them have access to e-mail. To alleviate the need for costly telephone calls, and extend enquiry services to 24x7, NHA worked with BESTmed to develop a new feature for its Medware administration system package. Web Mail is a proactive tool that enables members with e-mail to request and receive the comprehensive information usually only available on the BESTmed Web site.

After registering their e-mail address with BESTmed, members simply send an e-mail request to an e-mail address at BESTmed and the system generates and returns a package of information to the member. A first of its kind, Web Mail will prove enormously time saving to members and administrator. Web Mail will be extended to include facilities for all stakeholders in the chain.

Medware is a comprehensive healthcare administration solution designed to take advantage of modern Internet-based technologies. It greatly enhances productivity across the entire administration process and is vastly scaleable.

BESTmed has come to rely heavily on IT to support their extensive product range. Serving the low and high spectrums of the market, NHA has risen to the challenge to ensure that BESTmed using Medware is able to satisfy the needs of all its members. "The demands that innovative product design place on IT systems dictate that these systems are constantly revised and enhanced. BESTmed chose to replace their 10-year-old systems with NHA`s state of the art Medware system. In doing so, we can look forward to delivering uncompromised products and service to our members," adds La Grange.

"NHA`s best of breed solutions, proven track record and commitment to doing IT differently has confirmed our long and healthy relationship with BESTmed," says Neil Harvey, Managing Director of NHA. "It`s about making their jobs easier, refining processes, and constantly enhancing the way they interface with their members and providers."

The BESTmed contract, worth R37 million, encompasses a complete outsource of all hardware, software, application software and infrastructure solutions to NHA - a step many healthcare administrators are taking to ensure they remain focused on their core businesses.
