South African corporations wanting to enlist the services of small and medium black enterprises operating in the Western Cape can now find them through the Western Cape Business Opportunities Forum`s (Wecbof) Web site.
Business profiles of more than 200 Western Cape small and medium enterprises (SMEs), detailing their products, services, reference sites and contact details, are easily accessed through the site designed and hosted by IT consulting firm DLK Consulting Services. The project was sponsored by Caltex Oil SA.
Wecbof CEO Lesley Africa says the intention is to get all 490 Wecbof members to showcase their companies on the site as it makes it easier for them to gain exposure to larger companies seeking to do business with empowered and emerging businesses.
Caltex Oil SA chairman Dana Flanders says the company`s support and funding of the portal is "part of Caltex`s on-going effort towards stimulating economic development - particularly among historically disadvantaged South Africans and small business entrepreneurs.
"For Caltex and other large established entities seeking to form partnerships with emerging black businesses, the Wecbof Web site offers an invaluable tool in accessing the right suppliers quickly and efficiently.
"As procurement is playing an increasingly critical role in ensuring broader black economic empowerment is expected to accelerate the development and capabilities of the small business sector of the Western Cape."
DLK Consulting CEO Leon Hendricks says using his firm`s Web site development skills to showcase fellow emerging businesses was part of its commitment to helping widen the networking skills of the business community.
"Many large companies want to empower with emerging black businesses but have previously been unable to locate them on check on their credentials. This portal is a first step to opening doors to new business opportunities."
