Webcom celebrates Easter with Abangani Enkosini, St Mary's Children's Home

The Webcom Group, an information communication technology (ICT) organisation that delivers end-to-end products and solutions, provided Easter treats for two of the charities it regularly supports - Abangani Enkosini and St Mary's Children's Home.

On 1 April 2010, the Webcom social committee delivered 400 Easter gift boxes, each to the value of R120, to the children supported by these charities. Each box included six different Easter eggs, two games and two lucky packets. Aside from tasty treats, the games ensured that the children were kept entertained and enjoyed a day of fun.

Says Jacky Stapelberg, a member of Webcom's social committee: "We focus a lot of attention on sustainable initiatives. We take time to understand the challenges faced by the charities and offer assistance throughout the year in different forms. However, we feel it is important to assist the charities in making holidays special for the children. These opportunities are used to give them a little something 'extra' - something most of us tend to take for granted."

Abangani Enkosini provides shelter, care, nourishment and support to orphans and vulnerable children in Alexandra, Johannesburg. Started by Portia Mongake 10 years ago, the shelter has grown to include 10 volunteers that help look after the children and get food and basics, such as clothing.

The St Mary's Children's Home in Rosettenville is an orphanage, which houses approximately 40 children from families in crisis.

Comments Glen Miller, CEO of The Webcom Group: "We believe in engaging the various charities that we support, through sustainable long-term support initiatives, donations and regular social events. Our initiatives to provide presents at Easter and Christmas are small, yet play a significant part in our larger objectives."
