Webfluential, a global influencer marketing company, has won this year's edition of the Start-Up Tel Aviv SA competition.
The Start-Up Tel Aviv SA initiative is backed by the Israeli embassy. It invited local women tech innovators to enter the competition to travel to Israel for a full week of meetings, workshops and networking opportunities with some of the world's leading tech and start-up experts.
The winner, Kirsty Sharman, global head of Webfluencial, will travel to Israel for a five-day start-up experience in Tel Aviv in September, during the DLD Festival.
The DLD Festival week is Israel's largest international hi-tech gathering, featuring hundreds of start-ups, venture capitalists (VCs), angel investors and leading multinationals, including top technological talent and companies such as Intel, Google, Microsoft, Kimberly Clark, Amazon, GM, Amdocs and Facebook.
"The Webfluential team is incredibly excited about this opportunity, not only to help our business gain insight and experience in the international space - but also to shine light on the South African technology scene," says Sharman.
"Israel is one of the few markets that has perfected the recipe of exporting technology at scale. The opportunity to learn about that process from the world's leading engineers, VCs and entrepreneurs is not something that comes along every day - so I feel honoured Webfluential has been chosen to do just that," she adds.
In 2015, the winners of the competition were local tech start-ups Funda and WhereIsMyTransport.
"Start-Up Tel Aviv South Africa, now in its third year, aims to share the energy of Israel's start-up culture with women in the tech-sector of South Africa through supporting truly innovative start-ups," says Israeli ambassador to SA, Arthur Lenk.
