WebFOCUS introduces plug-and-play consumer Web services

Johannesburg, 12 May 2004

Information Builders, a leader in enterprise business intelligence (BI) solutions and real-time Web reporting, has expanded the already formidable data integration capabilities of WebFOCUS through the addition of a Web services adapter.

The WebFOCUS Web Services Adapter enables Web services created and deployed using any Web-services authoring tool to be directly consumed by the WebFOCUS report server and manipulated as though it were relational data.

"This new adapter makes WebFOCUS the only business intelligence solution that can both read the output of a Web service as a data source, as well as be called to present data as a Web service. In other words, WebFOCUS is both a consumer and publisher of Web services," explains Twanette Jurd of ICL, the local representative for Information Builders. "Large enterprises are standardising on Web services and service-oriented architectures as a means of implementing low-cost, high ROI, standards-based integration," she says. "By enabling Web services to be accessed and manipulated as easily as if it were another relational database, customers employing Web services as a standard means of integrating data, applications, transaction systems, or packaged applications now have virtually unlimited access to enterprise data through WebFOCUS."

The WebFOCUS Web Services Adapter enables customers to author, publish, and deploy Web services. Once published, WebFOCUS enables metadata describing the Web service as a relational structure to be automatically created, catalogued, and made directly accessible for reporting or analytical purposes. Also, the same Web service may be manipulated in conjunction with the 85 other RDBMSs, DBMSs, and legacy file systems accessible through the WebFOCUS enterprise adapter architecture.
