Websense opens data centre in SA

Infrastructure and services deliver cloud-based Web and e-mail security.

Johannesburg, 06 Aug 2012

Websense today announces a strategic expansion of the company's global footprint in offering cloud-based security as a service (SaaS) solutions to South African companies. This new facility supports cloud and hybrid Web and e-mail security, delivering protection within the region.

Websense Security-as-a-Service (SaaS) provides a fast and easy deployment path for the Websense Cloud Web and e-mail security products. SaaS shifts security inspection, enforcement, and management processes from the customer's location to globally available data centres 'in the cloud'.

With this infrastructure, Web and e-mail security services can be deployed across large and small offices located around the world in minutes. Customers gain the benefits of the industry's leading content security solutions, providing sophisticated protection against data-stealing modern malware.

This announcement supports the company's leadership in cloud-based security, and offers South African customers a highly scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure with multiple ISP connections, and redundant power and cooling so there is no single point of failure. Each facility meets the very highest security standards, and the cloud security service is independently reviewed and certified to meet the most demanding security accreditation in the industry, ISO 27001.

Spencer Parker, Group Product Manager, Websense, explains: “South Africa is an important market for us and we are seeing a global increase in demand for our security solutions in the cloud. This supports our Websense TRITON cloud-enabling architecture providing the best protection against modern malware. Our South African customers will benefit from the availability of Websense Cloud providing localised content and speed of service. This also gives them the option to implement a hybrid security solution that enables our customers' security policies to follow them wherever they go.”

The benefits of SaaS to South African companies include:

* Sophisticated real-time security
Websense real-time security can be quickly deployed across the full spectrum of departments within an organisation and across remote workers to an HQ location maintained 24x7 by global security experts.

* No hardware or software to buy or maintain
Websense Cloud eliminates the cost of buying on-premise appliances and deploying, upgrading, and maintaining on-premise hardware. This especially benefits organisations looking to provide Web security for multiple branch offices that don't have their own IT resources.

* Reduce bandwidth costs
Cloud Web security can reduce bandwidth costs by eliminating the need to route remote office or mobile-user traffic back to a central location for filtering.

* Ease of scalability
When companies are ready to expand Web security coverage to new offices or users, it is usually a matter of a few simple system configurations. There's no need to send IT staff to remote offices, deploy an appliance, or provide ongoing appliance support.

* Automatic spooling for e-mail backup
Websense SaaS helps ensure availability of e-mail by providing automatic spooling in the cloud in case your local systems go down.

* Carrier-grade data centre availability and security
The Websense globally located carrier-grade data centres in the cloud, which are part of ISO 27001-certified Websense Cloud Services, meet strict security and availability standards that most organisations can't afford on their own. Websense Cloud Web security services come with a 99.999% uptime service level agreement.

* Web and e-mail security
Websense SaaS integrates Web security and e-mail security at every level. A single user interface configures both, and both leverage shared management services, including user directory synchronisation, delegated administration, reporting, account management, and more. This integrated approach eliminates repetitive tasks, consolidates vendor support, and lowers administrative training costs.
