In a further investment in its operations in SA, WebTec (Pty) Ltd is pleased to make the following operational, organisational and partnership announcements. Following a growth period in Cape Town, a new head office has been opened at Technology Village in Johannesburg.
In the continuing development of its unique range of solutions, WebTec will also partner with ICL for hosting of software applications, use of office space and the offering of managed services.
Headed by Andre de Wet, this office has been opened to service the needs of individuals, ISPs and corporations in the Gauteng area; geared specifically toward the offering of subscription-based software services.
In a first for SA, WebTec has signed a contract with Softsecure of France to offer its unique software subscription-based solution to the local market. Softsecure is at the forefront of next generation software e-licensing. Softsecure provides software publishers with the most comprehensive, instant solution to deploy and grow their sales on the Internet.
Softsecure e-licensing technology is the broadest and most flexible licence management system available. It enables publishers to implement any business model from the same physical package, manages licences of any duration, for all or modules of an application, on the consumer as well as corporate markets.
Softsecure payment technology is the broadest and most flexible payment system available. It enables payment collection through about 200 different payment processors, from credit cards, to tele-banking, wire transfers and direct debit. Automated processing of back-office, invoicing and bank reconciliation via the Softsecure Corporate Payment server manages corporate customer accounts: credit limits, invoicing, credit collection and reconciliation.
A major application of the software usage rights server is the ability for ISPs, IAPs or ASPs to provide usage rights of a given software application to all or part of their subscribers. A main design principle in Softsecure technology is to clearly separate licence enforcement from business rules; process all business rules on a server, and leave the application with a simple binary choice: go on or stop. In other words, the application should know whether or not it is authorised to work, but not why.
"We firmly believe that customers increasingly want software and hardware delivered not in one big package but in modular, interchangeable components that can be added and subtracted from systems in a matter of hours. Many suppliers now believe that open systems, standards and swappable hardware will permanently drive down how much customers pay and how often they buy. Companies have figured out that they don`t need to hold inventory and with the Softsecure solution we believe the use of software will be driven by on-demand market forces. We are now in a position to offer a complete desktop or network-based security solution incorporating, among others, anti-virus, firewall, content scanning, anti-spam and e-mail scanning on a subscription basis. Allowing companies to make this decision as an operating expense and not necessarily a capital expenditure," explains De Wet. "Further investigation in offering a wide range of applications by using this model is currently underway."
At the same time WebTec is pleased to announce signing of a partnership agreement with Agincourt Technologies of the UK. Agincourt is a supplier and consulting firm specialising in the security market with a wide range of biometrics-enhanced products, ensuring complete peace of mind for the home and corporate user.
Finally, to assist with the support of these additional services, WebTec is also delighted to announce three new members of the team:
Jaques Basson joins us as a network engineer, specialising in the Softsecure application management and implementation.
Tristan Berg joins as a consulting services architect, having previously consulted for, inter alia, the Department of Communications, Absa, MedScheme, Standard Bank, Telkom and chief architect for HANIS (Home Affairs National Identification System).
Christa de Wet joins us as customer support manager, with dynamic and proactive experience in this field.
