"Sunninghill is an area of intense growth and exciting business opportunities. I am extremely bullish about my new business initiative. Not only is Unisys South Africa a block away, but my whole business is run off Unisys`s PEC 8850, a fully functional and scalable solution that allows me to effectively manage my service station, including all forecourt and convenience store needs," said Exel `The Square` service centre owner, Clive Masinga.
The service station and forecourt arena has seen dynamic changes over the past few years. "Originally your local service station sold only fuel and automotive lubricants. Today these products form part of a much larger offering. While filling up your car you can purchase numerous convenience goods such as bread, sweets, cold drinks and the newspaper.
In fact some service stations are selling more cold drinks than oil. With such a vast array of consumable goods for sale, it is crucial that the management of all stock be in place and effective. This noted transition from wholesaler to retailer has put additional emphasis on system requirements and retail management," said Nick Emms, programme sales manager, Unisys South Africa.
The PEC 8850 allows clients who have accounts at the service station to have their accounts balanced at the end of each month. Credit limits can be set, late payments accepted, bank reconciliation can be done and tax rates calculated - providing a comprehensive range of applications for the management of both the forecourt and convenience store. The system is intelligent enough to do both automatic and manual stock ordering, stock taking and accept deliveries. The PEC 8850 gives each service station forecourt a pump memory that enables the effective management of up to 32 different fuel pumps. Each pump can be run in either automatic, compulsory or monitor mode.
