According to Geoff Lee, Financial Director of Westcon AME, this growth was achieved through effective cost controls and prudent management of working capital. "During the period under review we improved efficiencies, sold off non core assets and invested in streamlining processes and standardising IT systems," he says. Revenues for the period grew by 7%.
John Hurrell, CEO of Westcon AME, said that over the past 12 months the company has leveraged its global partnerships to accelerate turnaround time of products. "This has supported us to achieve our goal of excellence in distribution," he said.
"The business`s sound performance over the past 12 months has created a solid platform for growth in the next financial year. We are well placed to become the premier value added distributor of networking, security, mobile and converged solutions in South Africa.
"In order to strengthen our business model we have made some strategically important appointments this year and we expect to make further appointments over the next few months," he says. Last month the company announced that Graham Vorster had taken on the role of chief technology officer (CTO), a post that had not previously been offered within the company. Vorster was formerly with Duxbury Networking.
When asked about future growth Hurrell said that government spending had shown clear signs of stepping up activity and that Westcon AME expected to benefit through its partnerships with systems integrators that supply the public sector. "We also expect growth in security, networking infrastructure and mobility products.
"Selling technologies that carry voice over a data network is a clear growth opportunity for future," he said. "We will monitor opportunities coming out of the convergence bill and will support our partners to leverage the opportunities in this area."
Westcon AME`s focus on Africa had generated good revenues over the past 12 months and would continue to be a focus over the next year. The business was awarded the Cisco.
In terms of BEE the South African interests of the Datatec Group, including Westcon AME, expects to make an announcement shortly. Discussions are at an advanced stage.
