Westcon Australia selected to distribute Extreme Networks` Ethernet broadband solutions

Johannesburg, 07 Sep 2001

Datatec`s global channel provider of networking technology products, Westcon Group, has announced that its Australian division has been selected by Extreme Networks, a leading provider of broadband networking solutions, to be a distributor of its next-generation Ethernet switching products to the Australian market.

A division of the global Westcon Group, Westcon Australia will concentrate its efforts on building the channel and broadening Extreme`s Australian customer base. Westcon will enable Extreme to reach companies that will benefit from its solutions but are too small to have a relationship with the larger Extreme resellers.

Says Kenny Soutar, Managing Director, Extreme Networks Australia and New Zealand: "Westcon is a premier worldwide distributor in the networking space so we are pleased to have them on board as our partner in Australia.

"We are committed to providing our customers with the best-of-breed networking solutions though leading channel partners and Westcon will be a major force in growing our Australian business."

With the explosive growth of the Internet economy, technology focus and direction has shifted over the past few years to IP and Ethernet-based switching networks, to deliver a simplified, high-performance network architecture.

Says Wendy O`Keeffe, Vice President of Sales for Westcon Australia: "Enterprises of all sizes today are demanding a networking solution that is easy to understand and install, meets their needs and offers a clear return on investment.

"Giving our resellers the opportunity to provide Australian customers with Extreme Networks` next generation networking offerings reflects our confidence in the growth of this sector."

New channel partners will be added to complement existing resellers such as Ericsson, which is a global reseller of Extreme Networks.

Says Soutar: "By extending our reach in this market, we will be able to offer smaller companies a realistic and competitive choice when it comes to building networks with a life of not just two or three years, but a decade or more. As a young company, we see the appointment of Westcon as an opportunity for Extreme to hit the ground running in a growing segment of the market."

Extreme Networks delivers a simplified approach to networks based on its corporate vision of Ethernet Everywhere networking. The company`s family of BlackDiamond, Alpine, and Summit switching solutions combine its ExtremeWare management software with an ASIC-based architecture to provide enterprises, telcos, ISPs and content providers with the ability to increase information flow and accommodate network growth.
