Armed with a pile of Christmas presents for 46 kids, ranging from one year old to six, the Westcon Cares team from Westcon-Comztek brought the Christmas spirit to the Schaumurg Combined School in Diemoot.
The Christmas party, and combined graduation day, was recently held at the school, and cheer was spread all around as presents wrapped by the Westcon-Comztek volunteer employees were handed out to the children who received their Christmas gifts with smiles and laughter.
Westcon Cares is a corporate social investment (CSI) programme that is run entirely by Westcon-Comztek volunteer-employees and which seeks to do as much good as possible, where it's needed most. One of these areas is that of the Parent and Child Counselling Centre in the remote and isolated Schaumburg community in Brits.
Through the assistance of Westcon Cares, the Hartbeespoort Parent and Child Counselling Centre now also supports Schaumurg Combined School, which then provides family and social services to the impoverished community, plagued with social issues such as starvation, HIV, substance abuse, domestic violence and neglect.
Hellen Magagane, a qualified counsellor at the Parent and Child Counselling Centre, and her colleagues, work hard to educate caregivers and improve the current situation. Where neglect is deliberate, they work equally hard to intervene, educate and ensure a good outcome for all parties.
"We would like to extend our gratitude to Westcon-Comztek for making our Christmas party for 2013 extra special. We wouldn't have made it this fun and brought as many smiles to the pre-school without you. We feel humbled and overjoyed for your heartfelt contributions to our Christmas party," says Magagane. "We would like to send thanks to you and your team at Westcon-Comztek as we really appreciate your support. I do believe that together we are making a difference."
