Datatec-owned Westcon has won a two-year contract making it the primary global distributor of Motorola`s Canopy broadband products and accessories.

The group says the initial focus will be on the North American market.

The Canopy line is a wireless broadband solution that has been making what Westcon describes as 'significant inroads` in the business, and government sectors.

Canopy equipment can be integrated with voice over Internet protocol, video services and surveillance.

Anthony Daley, Westcon`s senior vice-president and GM for the Americas, says the Canopy products complement many of Datatec`s other convergence and Internet protocol offerings.

Westcon is preparing for a listing on Nasdaq that could see it raise up to $115 million.

Westcon intends to use about $5.7 million of the net proceeds from the offering to repay a portion of its outstanding loan and accrued interest payable to Datatec.

The balance will be used for general corporate purposes, including working capital and future acquisitions and businesses and assets.
