What's small, cute and checks your biorhythms?

The Samsung's SGH E530 - it is cute and compact and does everything a modern camera phone needs to do, plus a few girly extras.

Samsung's new SGH E530 is designed with girls in mind. It's small and pretty, flips open to reveal a full-colour screen and neatly designed keypad and offers "girl-specific" software, not found in most mobile phones.

For example, women can check their most fertile days of the month using the "pink schedule" - a handy feature for those who tend to be forgetful. They can also check their daily or monthly biorhythms in case they aren't sure how they feel; count the calories in their diet; convert measurements or compile shopping lists.

While functions like the device's perfume selector seem intriguing, they are little more than novelty add-ons. The user is required to highlight aspects of their tastes and interests, and based on this, the programme allocates a style of perfume (eg "floral") it thinks will be appropriate. The results were way off the mark in my case.

The phone includes a 1MP digital camera with adequate image quality, as well as MPEG4 video capture, voice recording, 92MB memory and MP3 player with fairly good sound quality.

It's also user friendly with a clear display that makes MMS, video and Java games bright and fun to use.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth, USB, Sync ML, WAP 2.0, GPRS Class 10, MMS and e-mail client.

It claims up to 200 hours standby and five hours' talk time and weighs in at a mere 85g.

Ideal for the girl who likes to accessorise while travelling light - this phone comes in five bright colours with matching pouches and fits neatly into the palm.
