Vendor advertisements in leading business publications have painted a pretty confusing story in the last few weeks about what technology companies can and should use to tie their networks together to compete successfully.
According to Novell managing director Richard Beytagh, Microsoft touts its cross-platform capabilities in advertisements suggesting its software `plays well with others`.
"Sun Microsystems is also running advertising critical of Microsoft, claiming its software isn`t open. This makes it tough to know what to believe. What is clear is that no software company has made a firmer commitment to interoperability than Novell. Companies have multiple platforms in their enterprises, and they need software that allows those platforms to work together as a single platform and Novell software allows this. Novell`s eDirectory runs on NetWare, Windows, Solaris, Linux and Tru64, among others, managing users and network resources across these platforms."
According to recent press and analyst reports, Novell`s ZENworks product manages Windows environments better than Windows. NDS eDirectory has been certified on Solaris under Sun`s SunTone program. With NetWare 6, now out in beta, users can access network resources from any desktop, whether Windows, Apple, or Linux. Novell has been practicing for years what other vendors are just starting to preach, and certainly aren`t delivering.
