White Source opens public beta

Software as a service company White Source has released a public open source software beta for software developers that manages open source assets to ensure licence compliance and reduce risk, Seattle PI reports.

Developers and managers use White Source's free cloud-based solution to track, audit and report on OSS components throughout the software development life cycle.

White Source CEO Rami Sass explains that the challenge in the industry lies with the fact that only large companies have the resources and expertise to manage the open source life cycle effectively, San Francisco Chronicle states.

“This leaves the majority of development organisations exposed to potentially serious risks such as licence violations, loss of intellectual property, and exposure to security vulnerabilities. Our easy-to-use, cost-effective solution makes open source management accessible to everyone," explains Sass.

White Source fully supports Java and plans to support additional languages in the future, TimesUnion.com says.

However, the company intends to add premium services for a monthly subscription fee.
