In an effort to maximise existing home or office power line infrastructure, Nology, a supplier of quality security-driven broadband, networking and communication solutions, has introduced the Billion 2073N Wireless-N HomePlug Ethernet Adapter.
The networking device enables users to gain Ethernet connectivity plus extend existing networking capability without the resultant cabling.
The 2073N, for example, not only enables Ethernet over Power (EOP), but also bridges Ethernet devices such as modems, routers, PCs, set-top-boxes, and game consoles, allowing users to share network access via existing in-home power infrastructure, again mitigating the need for additional cabling.
Furthermore, the Ethernet adapter features an extra built-in 802.11n WiFi Access Point, enabling users to enjoy mobility, high-speed wireless connection and better coverage with no more 'dead zones'.
Simply plug the 2073N into any wall power socket and you can easily set up a secure wireless network by pressing the WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) button on the unit. Two HomePlug's are required (per network) for this to work and the second adapter doesn't necessarily have to be the same model. Any one of Billion's range of HomePlugs will do. The adapters therefore extend wireless coverage through power lines for multimedia applications such as online games, IPTV and audio streaming from room to room.
"The 2073N is a cost-effective and easy way to make the most of your existing power infrastructure. We are increasingly seeing home and small businesses opting for Ethernet over Power (EOP). In addition, as this device also extends existing Ethernet connectivity, it makes it even more attractive to go the HomePlug route," explains Riaan Leuschner, MD of Nology.
Incorporating the international HomePlug AV standard, the 2073N also increases connectivity speeds reaching data transfers of up to 200Mbps (megabits per second). The HomePlug AV standard - designed by the HomePlug Powerline Alliance - provides sufficient bandwidth for applications such as HDTV and VOIP.
The 2073N HomePlug Ethernet Adapter incorporates Quality of Service (QOS) control, which guarantees the transmission quality by automatically prioritising data. For example, it automatically recognises the bandwidth needs of voice and video applications and as a result prioritises the data to guarantee optimal transmission quality. QOS also guarantees clear, instant transmission of voice data, even when other applications are running on the network at the same time.
Lastly, the device supports noise-immune data transmission over in-home electrical power lines. The moment an electronic device or light is turned on, the connection won't be interrupted on latency-sensitive applications such as multimedia or video shared in another room.
Additional features include:
* Provides physical layer data rate of up to 200Mbps over existing in-home power lines;
* Extended wireless coverage of up to three times the range of 802.11g products; and
* Supports 10/100 BaseT Ethernet.
