Wincor Nixdorf commits to southern Africa and partner, GijimaAst

Johannesburg, 01 Jul 2005

Based on growing opportunities within the petroleum and retail industries, Wincor Nixdorf has committed to growing market share in the southern African region through extending its partnership with GijimaAst, which now includes Wincor Nixdorf`s portfolio of leading retail solutions in addition to its already established banking and self-service solutions.

GijimaAst, the new ICT powerhouse of the merger between the AST Group and Gijima Technologies, with its business model and strong client base form the foundation for an integrated services and solutions business which is ideally positioned to take on the opportunity within the petroleum and retail industries.

Wincor Nixdorf has been developing successful IT solutions for the petroleum and retail industries for more than 20 years. The co-operation of its industry-leading retail and banking divisions, combined with extensive experience, enables the company to offer oil companies and retailers alike, an integrated portfolio covering products, solutions and services.

"Wincor Nixdorf`s offering is one of the industry`s most comprehensive and integrated portfolio of business solutions. Designed for international deployment and based on standards and best practice, the solutions provide the most flexible and modular offering today," explains Neil Hendry, Manager: Retail of GijimaAst.

"GijimaAst is excited about customising these solutions, which will allow us to create complete solutions that orient themselves to retail challenges and success factors. Whether they are solutions that promote sales or increase the value of the business segment or ones that shape processes more efficiently and reduce costs."

Wincor Nixdorf has significant global coverage with presence in more that 90 countries. Utilising Wincor Nixdorf`s thought leadership, GijimaAst aims to be the partner of choice for the provision of business solutions and services by leveraging off its existing core offerings and alliances in specific niche markets within the retail, banking and petroleum industries.

"Wincor Nixdorf`s STORE VISION Program is a central part of its software portfolio, which is built on many years of experience in the development of POS hardware and software. Wincor Nixdorf understands the fundamental requirements of retailing based on many years of practical experience in a wide range of areas. As the number-one vendor in Europe (number three worldwide) of automated teller machines for banks and POS system solutions for retailing, Wincor Nixdorf has focused on dynamic sectors such as banking, retail, service stations, lottery, hospitality and postal services. This cross-sector experience makes Wincor Nixdorf the ideal partner for retail organisations seeking to enhance their service offering at store level," adds Hendry.

"These services and solutions allow GijimaAst to provide complete retail solutions and services, which includes mission-critical business applications, all infrastructure components, consulting, design, implementation, maintenance, support and management (managed services, outsourcing)."

"We have developed a resolute partnership over many years with AST and are proud to enhance our commitment to GijimaAst," says Sugen Naidoo, Country Manager, Wincor Nixdorf. "Wincor Nixdorf`s strategic commitment to the region and GijimaAst is illustrated by this announcement."
