Wireless may boom after auction

equipment makers may see a flurry of new orders in the next two years after a $19 billion government auction of wireless airwaves, reports PC World.

The top two US mobile services AT&T and Verizon Wireless were the biggest spenders in the auction.

Equipment makers that may benefit include Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Nortel Networks, Nokia Siemens, owned by Nokia and Siemens AG, Motorola, China's Huawei Technologies and ZTE.

Cisco assists with skills shortage

Cisco has unveiled a Partner Talent Portal for Jordan, providing regional channel partners with access to local Cisco Network Academy graduates and Cisco-certified talents, states Al-bawaba.

The Partner Talent Portal features curricula vitae and profiles of local Cisco Network Academy graduates to help facilitate the connection between Cisco channel partners and this proven talent pool.

A study commissioned by Cisco last year and conducted by industry analyst firm, IDC, revealed that the demand for skills in the Jordan alone was set to exceed supply by an average of 47.1% in 2009.

Wayne State adopts 802.11n

With the launch of a $1.3 million technology initiative, Wayne State University is joining the first wave of universities adopting new 802.11n high-performance WiFi technology, says Business Wire.

The project will more than double the capacity of Wayne State's current wireless network, wireless@wayne, within its Midtown Detroit campus and upgrade the technology to the latest 802.11n products.

In addition, Meru Network's Air Traffic Control technology will improve the online performance of wireless laptops of the students, faculty and staff.
