Wireless photo printers for phone snapshots

Johannesburg, 23 Apr 2004

A new dimension has been brought to camera phone technology with the introduction of photo printers, enabling users to make their phone snapshots available in hard copy.

The wireless photo printers will be available in major photo and provider outlets, such as VodaWorld and select Fuji and Kodak film labs, although for more regular photographers, wireless photo printers are also available for home use.

"Now in less than 30 seconds, you can take photos from your Motorola camera phone, review them on your Bluetooth handsets and send them to print at a nominated wireless address," says Stephen Nolan, director and country manager for Motorola Southern Africa.

"What`s more, once the photo appears on the designated photo booth screen, it can be altered before printing, such as taking a colour picture and changing it to black and white, adding borders, frames and captions and even removing red eye."

He says that when using wireless home printers, the user must simply download the various packages that will allow them to perform the same functions from the convenience of the home or office.

Bluetooth technology allows the printers to connect to Motorola V500 or V600 phones, so they can `talk to each other` and share images. The image is then processed onto hardcopy photo format, meaning that one can keep phone snapshots for years to come.

"Gone are the days of simply taking snaps, storing them on your phone for a few months then discarding them. Wireless photo printers mean your memories will now be yours to keep," says Nolan.
