WISPs set to 'bill in bytes' with AirLive's hotspot gateway

Johannesburg, 03 May 2007

Nology, distributing agent of imported quality broadband and networking products, has introduced the AirLive WIAS-1000G Wireless Hotspot gateway, optimised for South African WISPs (wireless Internet service providers) and public hotspots such as coffee shops and airports.

The hotspot gateway features a powerful Intel 400MHz RISC processor and large memory capacity as well integrated accounting functionality, enabling service providers to provide services in a simple and effective manner.

"Service providers will undoubtedly find that the WIAS-1000G is a cost-effective, easy-to-setup gateway that provides them with the means to provide services in an effective and simplified manner," says Riaan Leuschner, managing director of Nology.

The WIAS-1000G has a built-in local authentication server that enables users to create accounts for Internet access. As a result, service providers can specify usage times, starting time, expired time, and service price for each of the 10 different billing account types. A new account is then instantly generated with user name and password information. Rather than purchasing a ticket printer, the bill can be printed on a conventional printer, further reducing the investment of this service.

Continues Leuschner: "This functionality is ideal for WISPs as it simplifies the process of billing and in addition to adhering to user needs, WISPs (and clients) enjoy the flexibility of the option to bill according to the number of bytes used as opposed to time.

Furthermore, "Direct Login" takes users directly to the account creation page right after login.
