The minister of communications has celebrated the role of women in the ICT (WICT) sector by launching the first portal specifically for them.
Women representing different ICT companies gathered this morning to witness the launch of the first WICT portal during a ceremony held at the Sandton Convention Centre.
Hosted by the Department of Communications, the event was an attempt to boost women`s participation in the ICT sector. The guest speakers highlighted the importance of women having access to information and a portal that will provide an update on relevant issues concerning women.
The new portal, www.wict.org.za, aims to provide valuable information relating to businesswomen, women in the ICT sector and women consumers.
Speaking at the launch, communications minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri highlighted the importance of women excelling within the ICT sector. She recognised women for their role in society and encouraged them to work even harder.
"The portal is a remarkable foundation for this generation. The portal will broaden the resources for women and nurture them in the ICT sector. The allocation of resources is key in ensuring growth, especially for women in this field," said Matsepe-Casaburri.
