This is according to Meryl Malcomess, marketing director at Syspro, who says the main reason for this column is to get people, especially women, communicating and sharing skills.
IT is still a very male-dominated industry, but this is changing, according to Malcomess, and the recent top 50 women in business announcement illustrated this. “Women in SA now occupy top positions in organisations, across all sectors - with many organisations having female CIOs and IT managers,” she says.
Phil Duff, CEO of Syspro, said 60% of his workforce is female.
The column will also pave the way for further initiatives within Syspro, says Malcomess. “What I would like to see is the featured women mentor others within the organisation.”
The women that feature in the column will initially be from companies that deal with Syspro, but representation will extend to cover other noteworthy women in the industry, at all levels and designations. The column can be viewed at www.womeninit.co.za.
