The Businesswomen`s Association (BWA) is calling on female professionals to volunteer as business advisors for the BWA Succeed Campaign.

The BWA, a non-profit organisation for professional women in all industries, was launched in 2000.

The Succeed Campaign aims to increase the percentage of successful women-owned companies by providing the practical information they need to get their businesses up and running.

"The Succeed Campaign has 18 advisors in total and about half of the advisors are male," says Sandy Pullinger, mentoring committee member at BWA. "So far, only 15% of the advisors and none of the entrepreneurial candidates are from the ICT sector."

Last year the campaign received 10 registered entrepreneurs for its first intake, but four pulled out. "We currently have six registered entrepreneurs and we are hoping to get an additional 10 candidates for this year`s intake," says Pullinger.

"The entrepreneurs and advisors have a board meeting every quarter, during which the entrepreneurs are given operational advice for their businesses.

"We`ve had a positive response from both the advisors and the entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs feel the campaign helps with their business growth.

"The advisors should have at least eight years` work experience, five years of them in a senior position in the field they will be giving advice," says Pullinger.

"We are hoping to make the campaign nationwide by the end of the year."

Women willing to volunteer for at least two days over a one-year period can e-mail Pullinger at sandy@nfold.com before 15 February.
