WordPress as CMS

Long popular with bloggers, the open source WordPress blogging software is also starting to find a niche as a low-cost corporate content management system (CMS), at least for managing relatively simple Web sites, says PC World.

"In the last six months or so, over half the sites being launched with WordPress are really not blogging sites per se, they are complete sites," says Raanan Bar-Cohen, vice-president of media services for Automattic, the company WordPress developer Matt Mullenweg started to offer a hosted version of the software.

CMS analyst firm, The Real Story Group, spoke with customers and examined Web sites. It found that if an organisation had to maintain a relatively simple Web site, one with 50 pages or fewer, then WordPress could prove to be a low-cost, relatively easy-to-maintain option.

Top businesses prioritise CM

Successful companies are more likely to take a strong role in managing digital-signage content than their less flourishing counterparts, and also to employ technologies for interacting with consumers significantly more often, according to new research, reports Screens.tv.

Aberdeen Research in the US says 'top-performing companies' are 73% more likely than 'average companies' to use a CMS for signage.

They are also twice as likely as average companies to use performance-reporting tools, and around 30% to 40% more likely to dedicate resources to content creation and management.

eZ CMS conference coming

EZ's 8th annual eZ Conference will be held in Berlin in June this year, according to CMS Wire.

This Web content management and digital media gathering is designed for industry leaders, experts and Web professionals.

This year's conference will focus on Web content management professionals looking at best practices as well as new trends. It will also look at developers and customers using or interested in eZ Technology or PHP in general.
