Johannesburg, 17 Jul 2006

Leading IT infrastructure distributor, Axiz, has announced the immediate availability of the HP iPAQ hw6915. This Mobile Messenger works hard with its built-in-phone, WiFi and e-mail solutions and plays hard with its GPS navigation, HP Photosmart camera and MP3 player.

It features the Microsoft Windows Mobile Version 5 OS, an onboard GPS receiver, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, a 416MHz XScale processor and a miniSD flash memory card slot. It is one of the first handhelds with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth. Also included is a 1.3-megapixel camera (select models).

"As an integrated wireless pocket PC, users can stay connected to their world with a variety of integrated wireless technologies. Facilitating the delivery of high quality mobile voice and data services, it also has impressive international roaming capabilities," says Subashnie Naidoo, HP iPAQ product manager, Axiz. "The HP iPAQ hw6900 is the ideal device for robust push e-mail, supporting a variety of e-mail and messaging solutions."

Shipping with a Microsoft add-on to the WM5 OS, referred to as Messaging Security and Feature Pack (MSFP), the MSFP features software components, when coupled with MS Exchange 2003, enable full synchronisation with Outlook inbox, calendar and contacts wirelessly over GSM/GPRS/EDGE or WiFi. "Mobile users can remotely update appointments, receive e-mail and other important information directly from a Microsoft Exchange Server without incurring additional e-mail middleware expenses," says Naidoo.

"The GPS navigation system incorporated in the HP iPAQ hw6900 is ideal for users who just hate asking for directions," says Naidoo. "The HP iPAQ hw6900 can be transformed into a personal guide via GPS navigation enabling users to get where they need to go. Combining the built-in GPS receiver and HP Photosmart camera, users can attach a GPS location to photos."

The GPS navigation solutions include customised software and maps.

When work is done, the HP iPAQ hw6900 keeps life fun with the Windows Media Player 10 Mobile, which lets users download and enjoy MP3s and videos, as well as access streaming audio, video and Internet radio. With the HP Photosmart Mobile Software users can fill their downtime by showing off their photos, and indulging in Windows Mobile games to challenge their minds.

With a 3-inch 240 x 240 transflective thin film transistor (TFT) display, the HP iPAQ hw6900 is capable of a 64k colour display with LED backlight and touch screen. Along with its 1.3-megapixel camera, the HP iPAQ hw6915 also comes with a built in alphanumeric keyboard.
