Workaround brings Flash to Apple
A group of developers has designed a tool that converts Adobe Flash files to JavaScript / HTML5, allowing it to be viewed on Apple's iPhone and iPad, writes IT News.
RevShock's Smokescreen, which has been open sourced, allows developers to adjust flash adverts to be viewable on the Apple platform.
Smokescreen is said to support Firefox 3.5 across the Mac, Windows 7, and Linux; including Safari, Chrome 5 beta, and Opera 10.53.
Start-up intros open source genome sequencer
A Harvard University spinout, GnuBio, promises to join together millions of biological samples that are siloed at institutes around the world, reports Mass High Tech.
The project is part genome sequencing, part database management and part social network, running on an open source platform.
The company has sold the first two prototypes of its gene sequencer at $45 000, significantly cheaper than others currently available commercially.
WSO2 enters FOSS cloud market
WSO2 has released an open source middleware platform for cloud-based enterprise solutions, states Server Watch.
Entitled WSO2 Stratos, the solution automates the provisioning of enterprise servers, including the portal, enterprise service bus, and application servers.
The platform is said to install onto any cloud infrastructure, including Eucalyptus, Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud, Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2), and VMware ESX.
