UK-based Greenwich Mean Time the global company founded in 1996 by well-known year 2000 expert and co-founder of Managers (UK), Karl W Fielder has appointed Datatec Group company, Workgroup Distribution, as sole distributor for its Check 2000 range of tools."With Check 2000, companies and individual PC users can ascertain the year 2000 of current and future IT software, at a relatively low cost," said Douglas Woolley, sales manager at Workgroup Distribution."Check 2000 tools put control of Year 2000 problems in the hands of those who care most about their resolution the users they will effect," says Woolley."This key first step allows users to prioritise on mission-critical areas, set budgets and proceed with solving their year 2000 problems."Woolley believes that the Check 2000 range is the only set of tools in the world today based on actual knowledge of how more than 4000 shrink-wrapped software programs are effected by date dependencies."Many software programs, particularly those that are number-based such as accounting systems, forecasts, spreadsheets, and inventory systems, already have to deal with dates after the end of the century," he said."At the hardware level, Check 2000 performs six BIOS checks, including whether the PC will successfully rollover from 31 December 1999 to 1 January 2000.At the software level, it identifies shrink wrapped software programs, comparing each one with Greenwich Mean Time`s year 2000 knowledge base for date dependencies, as well as pinpointing that is particularly date sensitive such as that contained in databases and spreadsheets," said Woolley.Advice is associated with each particular software program and version, and includes manufacturer`s comments. Check 2000 reports can be generated as appropriate for management, technical staff and end-users.The check 2000 range includes Check 2000 PC, designed for home PC users, small business and non-networked PCs.
