Workgroup, specialist distribution company of the Siltek Group, has been appointed as local distributor for the Sun-Netscape Alliance e-commerce products and solutions.
The company will provide the Sun-Netscape Alliance products, branded iPlanet, through its reseller channel. Other responsibilities will include the management of logistics, product management (sales through appropriate certified Value Added Resellers) and regulation of the channel programme. Workgroup currently has 3 500 dealers, to be increased to around 6 000 by end of 2000.
Says Workgroup MD, Doug Woolley: "The iPlanet offering fits very well with Workgroup's vision to be first with the e-channel, enabling resellers to take advantage of the Net economy."
The Sun Netscape Alliance recently announced it has the industry's broadest portfolio of e-commerce software, services and partners. The iPlanet portfolio of e-commerce applications and Internet infrastructure software enables customers to take advantage of opportunities presented by the Net economy.
"iPlanet enables Workgroup's resellers to strengthen their e-solution offerings and extend these to their customer bases. As a focused software distributor, this solution fits well with existing complementary software products within Workgroup's stable," explains Woolley.
"Basically, iPlanet allows us to provide resellers with a better offering in term of a one-stop solution."
Woolley maintains because of Workgroup's in-depth understanding of software distribution and support, the Sun-Netscape Alliance is afforded the advantage of a tried and tested sales structure. "We also have a diverse partners base, essentially reaching every type of partner within the SA IT market," he says.
Says Rachel Longster, product manager at Workgroup: "We have become adept at identifying best-of-breed products fresh in the early stages of their development. These are then introduced to the reseller channel, boosting the development of end-to-end solutions and value-added offerings."
Duncan Peruch, Sun-Netscape Alliance sales manager at Sun Microsystems SA states Workgroup was selected because of their focus on supplying leading edge software and value-added distribution. "Workgroup fits into our iPlanet model and vision to build the solutions businesses need to succeed in today's Net economy," he says.
