World-leading vendors support Citrix iForum conference

Johannesburg, 08 Jul 2002

World-leading vendors have pledged their support for Citrix iForum 2002 Africa, a free conference which is to be held at Vodaworld, Midrand on 23 July.

Vendors such as RSA Security Inc, AppSense Technologies, Microsoft Great Plains, Hewlett-Packard, as well as TCD-Africa, Symbol Technologies, IT Wise, IGEL, CS Education Solutions and CSS Distributors have signed up as sponsors for what is set to be one of SA`s premier IT conferences of the year.

ITWeb and Brainstorm are the media partners for this year`s event. Citrix Forum2002 Africa, sponsored by Citrix Systems, Inc, is aimed at IT professionals looking for an opportunity to learn how business access software and access portal technology are beneficial to the enterprise.

The focus of this conference is on how today`s business landscape is becoming increasingly virtual - with employees now requiring access to applications and information from wherever they are.

"The conference also features an exhibition area where these leading companies will showcase their products and services in the application and information serving market," says Stanley Ichikowitz, Citrix Systems regional marketing manager for UK, Ireland and SA.

Paul Kenyon, Sales Director at AppSense Technologies, comments: "In a world where information can move and change at the speed of light, it is difficult to get a handle on the status quo. Conferences like Citrix iForum 2002 Africa gives organisations the opportunity to understand Citrix technology in a friendly atmosphere and experience how other compelling layers of software can add real value."

"Citrix Systems is a strategic partner in our economic circle, and AppSensehas seen significant success when partnering with them. So far we have sponsored the majority of Citrix iForum events around the world - to sponsor Citrix iForum 2002 Africa is a natural extension of our marketing initiatives," says Kenyon.

According to Mark Myburgh, managing director of Thin Client Distribution - Africa (TCD-Africa): "A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since the humble beginnings of this technology. Initially only techies were excited, or understood the concept. Now, the advantages of the technology are well documented, understood and are actively being deployed. With this in mind I believe that this year`s iForum will be very fruitful for delegates, vendors and all other sponsors alike.

"Citrix`s iForum conference affirms the belief that 'Thin is in. Fat is old hat`," says Myburgh.

According to Ichikowitz: "There is an increasing need among enterprise customers to gain more centralised control over their servers and applications, as well as provide remote or 'virtual` access to business critical applications. Support from sponsors and vendors, and pre-registrations already received for iForum shows the level of local interest in the business access software and access portal technology that can enable this."

Some of the technologies to be launched at Citrix iForum 2002 Africa include:

TCD - Africa will launch its EXILIS range of thin devices at iForum. AppSense Technologies will launch two new products - Performance Manager and the Server Based Toolkit - and will provide a live demonstration of how its software can enhance the security stability and performance of Citrix Servers.

IT Wise will demonstrate beta versions of XPE and CE.Net software, soon to be released by WYSE. Also on display will be the newly released USB 802.11b Wireless devices for WYSE thin clients. IT Wise will also have on demonstration and display Packeteer`s application performance infrastructure solutions that ensures enhanced performance of mission-critical applications and application services, such as Citrix, across intranets, extranets and the Internet.
