World Online aids business skills development

Johannesburg, 23 Nov 2001

World Online has become the first Internet service provider to offer its 150 000 customers access to motivational seminars held throughout the country, with the aim of assisting customers to develop strategic business skills.

The seminars, in the form of motivational breakfasts, are held once a month in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. The number of attendees has reached the 2 000 mark and according to Graeme Victor, World Online MD, the interest is growing daily.

"We have found that a number of our subscribers are SMME customers searching for ways to improve their businesses," says Victor. "By exposing them to these educational events, World Online is providing a value-added service that helps customers to develop their business knowledge and apply this in their own companies."

Speakers are selected by a stringent selection panel and include motivational speaker Mike Lipkin, Body Shop founder Anita Roddick, business strategist Tony Manning, and futurist Wolfgang Grulke.

"We choose speakers who are able to educate and motivate our subscriber base," adds Victor. "To maintain our existing customers and extend our subscription base, it is vital for us to continue adding value by meeting the diverse needs of our customers. There are many SMMEs on our database. By giving their owners the opportunity to grow as individuals, we are ultimately assisting them in growing their businesses.

"The breakfasts have already had positive outcomes," concludes Victor. "By attending these functions, many subscribers gained insight into their personal and business lives and are now sharing this with their customers. As a result, our bookings are increasing steadily."
