World Online makes mobile Internet easy

Johannesburg, 27 Jul 2000

World Online has launched a new service which enables novice WAP cellphone users to take advantage of the new technology in a few seconds.

"WAP is warming up in SA," says World Online MD Graeme Victor. "This is clear from the plethora of WAP sites and services launched in the country in the past few months. Coupled with this, the penetration of WAP phones into the market is increasing rapidly.

WAP-enabled cellphone users can send and receive e-mails from their phones; check out the latest share prices and buy and sell them on the move; obtain the latest general, sports and weather news; access tourist information and reserve accommodation - and new services are coming onstream daily.

"Because the technology is new and complex, would-be WAP users have found it difficult to configure their phones without expert assistance. Calls to the World Online WAP call centre are increasing, with calls lasting from around two minutes to as long as an hour or more," Victor adds.

Now, with a single call to the World Online WAP call centre on 0860 100 893, WAP phone owners can simply ask to have their phone configured - and it will be done immediately - and remotely - provided the phone`s SIM card is fax- and -enabled.

If users want to personalise their WAP portal, call centre agents will talk callers through the process.
