World Online to debut a new competitively priced Internet server at live

Johannesburg, 02 Oct 2001

LIVE - the Internet and Networking Event for medium to small-sized companies, to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre from 4 to 6 October, will be the showcase for World Online to unveil a series of new Internet and networking solutions.

One such solution will be the new Sun Cobalt Qube 3 hardware-based Internet and Intranet Server, an appliance solution that offers optimal performance for small businesses, workgroups or educational institutions needing simultaneous access to a variety of network services.

According to World Online MD Graeme Victor, the Qube solution offers unparalleled server functionality at a fraction of the cost of a general-purpose server. "To put it simply, all the tools and services necessary for a powerful Internet/Intranet presence are integrated into the server. All you have to do is turn it on," he explained.

"Imagine the ability to instantly launch a Web site full of rich content, securely share your Internet connection across your company, create and manage your own e-mail system, and share documents and files across the network, within minutes of powering up. All of this can be centrally managed from a desktop using a multilingual Web-based user interface," he notes.

In addition, Sun has implemented a powerful new software architecture that allows third-party developers to drop their applications directly into the Sun Qube appliance, making it the ideal platform for the delivery of their product.

"The product can easily handle over 150 users and meet the requirements of even the most sophisticated Web sites. Each appliance can serve up to 2.5 million Web pages per day, " says Victor.

For those seeking the ultimate levels of performance and reliability, the Sun Qube 3 server also offers Web Caching, Web Access Control, RAID and SCSI on the higher-end models.
