WPB audit faults payroll system
An audit has found deficiencies in the city of West Palm Beach's payroll system, including shoddy handling of incentive pay, poor documentation, and failure to follow legal procedures for paying certain employees, says PalmBeachPost.com.
The most serious problem reported in the audit was that certain police officers were overpaid $207 000 in incentives that were paid retroactively.
Payroll staff members were essentially double-paid, issuing cheques for the entire incentive amount rather than deducting the amounts that had already been paid. There wasn't any documentation showing the process had been evaluated or approved. The officers had to repay the money.
Pittsburg buys new HR software
Pittsburg will have new human resources software to match up with software from the rest of the finance department, says The Morning Sun.
Pittsburg city commissioners approved a lease-to-purchase agreement with University National Bank to purchase the software from INCODE of Lubbock, Texas, for $20 857. This will be financed over 60 months at a 4.8% interest rate.
"It may not have all the bells and whistles that other software might," said Jon Garrison, Pittsburg director of finance. "But it's the only one that will fit in with all our other software."
Sage upgrades Abra
Sage Software has unveiled its latest versions (7.6 and 8.3) of Sage Abra HRMS, the company's human resource management system for small and medium-sized businesses and organisations in North America, says Web CPA.
The software features Employer Information Report EEO-1 and compatibility with the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.
Sage Abra has been updated in an effort to make it easy for customers to collect and report on necessary job categories and employee ethnicity to comply with the 2007 Equal Employment Opportunity Commission category changes, effective 30 September 2007.
