The recent agreement between WRQ, the software development company specialising in host applications, and F-Secure, a company that develops network security products, gives WRQ the exclusive global distribution rights to F-Secure SSH.
The WRQ brand is exclusively distributed and supported locally by Comztek.
Comztek now has the sole responsibility for the distribution of new F-Secure SSH (Secure Shell) security software licences and maintenance agreements in SA. Comztek has also been distributing and supporting the WRQ Reflection product line on an exclusive local basis.
Paul O`Connell, sales and marketing director at WRQ UK, stated: "Comztek fulfils a strategic role for WRQ in SA. The partnership ensures that our customers, across a range of industries, including government, financial services and healthcare, can rely on SSH security software to protect their assets and safeguard operations.
"Our immediate goal is to ensure a smooth transition for F-Secure SSH customers and channel partners, providing them with the outstanding support and collaboration we offer to all WRQ customers."
SSH is an Internet protocol (IP) that allows users to connect to remote host systems via an encrypted link. This provides a secure communications channel for applications like terminal access and file transfer. F-Secure SSH also keeps passwords and connections secure from outsiders, mitigating security concerns. The product line comprises server software for Unix and Windows, as well as client software for those platforms.
Kobie Coetzee, WRQ product manager at Comztek, explained the significance of the distribution and support agreement: "Reflection, WRQ`s feature-rich line of host access and PC-X server software, currently offers SSH support in its Windows and Web clients. The addition of the F-Secure SSH product line to WRQ`s portfolio enables WRQ to offer both ends of the secure SSH channel and more options in client capabilities."
During a visit to SA recently, Camille Morgan, channel manager at WRQ UK, met South African resellers as well as existing potential customers.
She explained: "We identified a number of new opportunities for the SSH product in the corporate enterprise and government sectors in SA. While there are several open source products on the market, we feel that if businesses want commercial grade security, they should be looking for an alternative to using open source solutions to secure their networks."
The F-Secure product line has received FIPS 140-2 level 2 certification for its Windows version. Validation for the Unix version is pending - see F-Secure 5.0 launch press release for more details. F-Secure SSH also supports a wide variety of authentication mechanisms, giving customers flexibility in the levels of security they require.
