Xbox 360 eyes SA music

Johannesburg, 20 Apr 2007

Xbox 360 has extended its Soundtracks initiative to include the local music industry.

The programme goes live on 9 May, and musicians from Europe and SA will be able to download game trailers and write music for them.

"The Xbox Soundtracks programme is about creating music inspired by next-generation high-definition games on the Xbox 360 and there is no doubt that local talent is achieving extraordinary things across all genres," says Microsoft.

The completed tracks can be uploaded with the game trailer to the Xbox Soundtracks site, where viewers can watch and rate the productions.

The company says users with the highest ratings will be invited to have their tracks professionally produced by Universal Music.

"Xbox Soundtracks is an awesome initiative," says Khan Morbee, lead singer of the Parlotones. "Not only is it a creative way to showcase the synergy between music and gaming, but it's an opportunity for immediate global exposure for local music."
