Bytes Document Solutions, sole authorised distributor of Xerox products and solutions in sub-Saharan Africa, has introduced the Xerox 6204.
As the company`s latest wide-format, black-and-white copier-printer, the Xerox 6204 enables architectural, engineering and construction companies to economically produce documents such as maps and blueprints. It also brings cost and speed advantages to commercial print shops.
"Low-end digital wide-format printer revenue is expected to grow from $87 million in 2005 to $115 million in 2009, representing the fastest growing segment of the wide-format digital printer market," says Tim Greene, director of the wide-format research group at independent research company InfoTrends. "In this market, Xerox is an important player with one of the largest installed bases of monochrome digital wide-format printers. With this latest release it now has a complete portfolio of products for users in small, medium and large technical document printing environments, on the corporate and print-for-pay side.
The Xerox 6204 is designed to produce engineering renderings, topographic and aerial maps, and mechanical and architectural drawings. It is particularly suited to customers moving from analogue to digital printing and those entering the wide-format printing market, says Alewyn van Staden, product manager: wide format at Bytes Document Solutions.
Available in two configurations - printer only and printer-copier - the scanner on the Xerox 6204 printer-copier scans 600 dots per inch (dpi) resolution at three inches per second. Scanning documents to the network requires only one step.
"Digital wide-format printers are becoming easier to use, smaller in size and more economical," Van Staden says. "The flexibility of the Xerox 6204 allows print shops and companies to take full advantage of wide-format printing and scanning with minimal cash and resource investments."
Other benefits offered by the Xerox 6204 include:
* Speed, with the printer producing four A1 pages per minute (ppm). This is upgradeable to five A1ppm.
* High image quality, with the machine printing large documents at widths from 297mm to 914mm at 600 x 600dpi.
* Flexibility due to the unit`s smaller size. The Xerox 6204 does not require a standalone scanner and PC and can be placed only inches from a wall to conserve workspace. A touch-screen interface and integrated scanner make operation simpler.
* Improved workflow integration using an embedded controller. The processor sets up print files and transfers them to the printer and helps print providers streamline and standardise how their print operations work.
Xerox now offers four digital, black-and-white wide-format printing solutions: the Xerox 6204, the Xerox 510, the Xerox 6030 and the Xerox 6050.
As the authorised Xerox distributor to 24 sub-Saharan countries, Bytes Document Solutions, previously known as Xerox South Africa, is engaged in the marketing and servicing of the complete range of Xerox document equipment, software, solutions and services, and operating through an extensive network of dealers, concessionaires and channel partners. With black economic empowerment partner Kagiso Holdings owning a 27% stake of the business, it is a wholly owned member of the JSE Securities Exchange-listed Bytes Technology Group.
