Xerox Engineering Systems boosts print productivity with 36-inch ColorgrafX X2 for the graphic arts community

360 high-speed modes print up to 47 and 57 square-metres/hour offering the fastest useable print modes for colour digital large-format printers
Johannesburg, 17 May 2003

Xerox Engineering Systems (XES) recently raised the performance bar on wide-format colour printing in the graphic arts industry in South Africa, with the introduction of the new 36-inch ColorgrafX X2, a six-colour inkjet for high-end corporate use. The product is one of the leading colour products on show at this year`s Computer Faire 2003.

XES designed the ColorgrafX X2 36-inch with a new high-speed print mode capable of printing up to 47 square-metres/hour. Similarly, a new high speed 360 mode is also available for the ColorgrafX X2 54-inch version introduced earlier this year, enabling printing up 57 square-metres/hour. The 36-inch ColorgrafX X2 prints at both 360 dpi and 720 dpi resolutions in six colour, including two tonal inks, with instantly dry pigmented inks which are smudge and UV-resistant for up to three years outdoors. This new 36-inch version is suited for high-end corporate use, while the 54-inch is primarily for the print-for-pay and service bureau markets.

"The new 36-inch ColorgrafX X2 offers customers the ability to print even faster across a variety of applications," said Mehmet Sezer, marketing director Xerox South Africa. "Unlike other printers which only support a few media at their fastest speeds, the new High-Speed 360 mode can support all of XES ColorgrafX X2 media line offerings at full throughput speeds. The result is an increase in productivity and a better return of investment value for our customers."

Both the 36-inch and 54-inch ColorgrafX X2 printers have two on-line media rolls that give the customer a choice of printing on two different media types or sizes from their desktop. XES proprietary patent-pending PixelCorrect technology is built inside both printer models and provides customers with high quality sellable prints at the fastest print speeds, eliminating the `draft mode` altogether.

XES is also introducing several new media offerings-Banner Vinyl, Premium PSV, Premium Display Paper and Production Paper-for the ColorgrafX X2 printers in both the 36-inch and 54-inch widths.

"Each of these new ColorgrafX X2 media has been tested to insure the best quality image possible," adds Sezer. "The broad product offering addresses our customer needs across all applications and at a variety of price points."

* Banner Vinyl is one of the most popular non-paper materials in the graphic arts community and its photo-realistic imaging and outdoor durability attributes also make it ideal for all banner applications for up to three years or 18 months outdoors. The material is appropriate for interior display purposes such as corporate office space, showrooms, kiosks, tradeshow/theater backdrops, and event signage, as well as exterior applications such as parking signage, entranceways, festival attractions, point-of-purchase and event promotions.

* Premium PSV is a new direct write Pressure Sensitive Vinyl (PSV) that is best suited for exterior use for up to two years. Its unique adhesive makes removal from installation surfaces easy, without the use of heat, tools, or chemicals. Premium PSV can also be used inside on glass, walls, or other display surfaces.

* Premium Display Paper provides high quality imaging on a bright-white paper base for intermediate level printing. ColorgrafX X2 users have an alternative to using presentation grade papers for general everyday printing, such as short-term posters, interim layouts, and simple color plots. Premium display paper is durable for up to ten years indoors and three years outdoors.

* Production Paper, also a new addition to the ColorgrafX X2 line media, makes full color proofs and check-plots economical. This media rounds out the array of papers now available for any application addressable with 360 dpi printing on the ColorgrafX X2.

Current owners of the 54-inch ColorgrafX X2 may download the new High Speed 360 firmware at no cost from http://www.xes.com/ by selecting `Support`, followed by `Downloads`, and then `ColorgrafX X2`.
