Xerox expands 80-strong MFP portfolio with 18 new digital systems

Johannesburg, 08 Nov 2005

Xerox, distributed throughout sub-Saharan Africa by Bytes Document Solutions, has introduced 18 additions to its growing line of digital copier-printers and multifunction systems, providing customers with an array of more than 80 office products and digital systems to satisfy IT managers and office workers alike.

The new CopyCentre, WorkCentre and WorkCentre Pro 232/238/245/255/265/275 systems boast production speeds ranging from 32 to 75 pages per minute (ppm), scanning speeds of up to 75ppm and a warm-up time under 30 seconds.

"These new systems are specifically engineered to meet the most stringent requirements of both IT managers and end-users," says Tanya Moodley, product manager: Xerox monochrome range for Bytes Document Solutions. "They are simple for IT administrators to install and maintain; and they provide a range of features to tackle any job, making professionals more productive across a number of industries."

FreeFlow SMARTsend software automates the process of scanning and routing documents and can be used to help office workers capture, store and share documents in hard copy and digital form. CentreWare IS desktop management software allows IT administrators to remotely configure and manage the devices. A new capability allows customers to manage Xerox network devices through HP`s Web Jetadmin peripheral management software.

Xerox Standard Accounting software is built into all of the new WorkCentre and WorkCentre Pro models, enabling administrators to control costs at the device by monitoring and limiting prints, copies, scans and faxes per user.

"With document security front of mind across a wide range of industries today, all of the new multifunction systems and copiers offer security features that allow customers to restrict access, track usage and protect confidential information that flows through the devices," Moodley says. "Adding a layer of security to the document workflow, the WorkCentre and WorkCentre Pro multifunction systems encrypt data travelling on the network to ensure that unauthorised viewers do not have access to scanned documents en route to file servers or other network repositories."

Enhanced scanning capabilities reduce file sizes of scanned documents by 50% through the use of mixed raster content and JBIG2 compression technologies, thereby reducing network loads and decreasing the amount of storage space needed on the server when people scan documents to file servers, e-mail or fax.

Powered by Xerox`s next-generation SMART controller with a 1GHz dedicated/80GB shared processor, the multifunction systems provide increased productivity and better management of large files and complex jobs. A distinctive, Xerox-developed controller architecture with a separate subsystem for each function of the device enables users to more efficiently run multiple jobs at the same time. LAN fax features and enhanced phonebook capabilities allow users to send and receive faxes from their computers, integrate a personal phonebook with a company directory, and create a personal fax list. A tab printing feature helps users build complex documents by automatically inserting tabs in the correct position while a job is printing.

"Xerox`s digital multifunction systems and copier-printers meet the specific document-handling needs of professionals in healthcare, legal, financial and education markets," Moodley says. "Legal customers can add comments, dates, page numbers or Bates Stamping, a sequential number stamped on each document in an exhibit, to legal documents and other output. Education, accounting and in-house central reproduction departments can benefit from page-level programming at the print driver, allowing them to program the printing of complex documents such as training manuals and financial reports directly from their computers."
