Xerox MFP awarded Network Computing magazine honour at US trade show

Johannesburg, 19 Sep 2005

Network Computing magazine has honoured Xerox with a distinguished Well-Connected Award for its WorkCentre Pro C2636 advanced colour multifunction product (MFP) at this year`s information technology trade show, Networld+Interop, held in Las Vegas.

The WorkCentre Pro C2636 won the award because it led the digital convergence category as the "Best Digital Printer" at the show. It was also recognised by Network Computing magazine in a colour MFP article earlier in the year where it won the Editor`s Choice with an overall rating of A-.

"The Well-Connected Awards are the only industry awards given by technologists based on real-world product testing and evaluation," says Fritz Nelson, president and group publisher of the Network Computing Enterprise Architecture Group.

"These awards take the pulse of the technology industry and reflect the best of what IT has to offer, and as such they differ from any other award programmes currently in place. The products selected in the Well-Connected Awards are distinct because they have been graded with the same criteria IT professionals use to make purchasing decisions."

The MFP, along with the company`s other multifunction products in that family, the WorkCentre Pro C2128 and C3545, is designed for networked offices that need to handle the multiple tasks of printing, copying and scanning simultaneously and without interruption.

All three products offer affordable, high-quality colour output at the highest speed in their class, with features that IT professionals require, including intuitive management tools for easy installation and administration.

Rob Abraham, MD of Bytes Document Solutions, the sole authorised distributor of Xerox products and solutions in sub-Saharan Africa, says: "Xerox strives to offer superior colour document technology for the IT community, focusing on network connectivity, integration and innovation."

Now in its 20th year, NetWorld+Interop presents IT buyers with comprehensive educational programmes, hands-on technology demonstrations, the opportunity to explore innovative networking technologies, and the chance to meet with vendors, event experts, and industry gurus face to face.

Six key technology areas are showcased at the show: security; wireless; voice over IP (VOIP) and collaboration; data management and compliance; performance; and network infrastructure and services.

"Over the years, the show has consistently reflected the very structure of the networking industry itself, the increasing integration and interdependence of technologies, and the impact this is having on the business of IT," says Steve Wylie, programme director for NetWorld+Interop.

"This year the conference was more strategic than ever, focusing on the need for businesses to make the right decisions, now."

Network Computing magazine is published by CMP Media in New York and is dedicated to providing critical analysis of technologies, vendors and products to 220 000 IT managers and staff who are accountable for strategic technology purchase decisions.
