Xerox SA document outsourcing now over 80m documents per year

Johannesburg, 12 Oct 2001

The trend towards document outsourcing is increasing as companies discover the large costs associated with purchasing and maintenance of expensive equipment. As documents, whether electronic or print, are the lifeline of all companies, be they large corporations or small businesses, companies have turned to Xerox to help them manage this vital part of their business.

Locally Xerox SA now has over 40 on-site document outsourcing contracts with some of SA`s leading organisations, which combined produce approximately 80 million documents per annum. The list of institutions includes five of the major universities, three of the major banks and several international-manufacturing organisations. Market sectors include paper, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and motor manufacturers.

"Xerox SA has had a long history of outsourcing solutions with the establishment of its first Copy Shop in 1969. Our first outsourcing contract was signed in 1993 with Rand Afrikaans University," says Chris Harley, Xerox SA Support Manager.

Through the launch of its new Document Services Division (DSD) Xerox SA once again proved to be a trendsetter in the local market. By incorporating all the off-site outsourced document services of its business into one structure, Xerox SA can now offer its current customers a better service as well as expand its client base to include small to medium enterprises (SMEs), an increasing market in SA. DSD also houses the largest laser bureau in SA.

He continues: "Xerox SA offer their clients a full document management solution including software solutions, web documents, imaging and knowledge sharing."

Software suite solutions, FlowPort and DocuShare; accelerate work processes, integrate technology and reduce print and document-stream costs. FlowPort enables simultaneous scanning and distribution to any IP address as well as storing of scanned images in a document repository. While DocuShare facilitates knowledge sharing, this is customisable to needs of the individual client.

"Outsource services, offering customers solutions that are equipment independent, account for almost half of Xerox S.A.`s staff complement and approximately one third of its revenue," concludes Harley.

"Internationally Xerox has been offering on site outsourcing solutions since 1956 and now has a turnover of $2 billion from more than 6 000 customers in over 50 countries."
