Xerox South Africa ends first year of success in Africa with contract win in Zambia

Johannesburg, 01 Aug 2002

Xerox, the global digital printing company, secured its first contract in Zambia, ending the first financial year of dealing directly into Africa on a high note. Xerox South Africa`s African operations secured the contract with the head office of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) in Lusaka. Xerox supplied a high volume colour printer to COMESA`s operations to deliver in its growing demand for colour printing.

Says David Ngenda, director of COMESA, "Until now we have been printing our communication to member states in single colour on monochrome printers. The printers were not able to deliver in the growing printing demand and we also wanted to incorporate colour into our documents. Xerox assisted us immediately, not only to acquire the equipment, but also to install and manage the implementation."

DoCuPrint Solutions in Lusaka will provide ongoing servicing and support for the equipment. "The contract with COMESA is testimony to the successful first year Xerox South Africa has had in dealing directly in Africa," says Jacques van Wyk, Africa Operations Manager Xerox South Africa. "We have seen a tremendous growth in our African operations and are very optimistic for the next financial year.

"The contract win in Zambia is testimony to the growing demand for printing solutions in Africa and we are sure to see more trade and investment in the printing market from the region as businesses start to see the benefits of investing in quality printing solutions," says Van Wyk.

The solution for COMESA includes the implementation of a Xerox 4890 NPS Highlight Colour Printer, capable of printing 90 pages per minute in black and one other additional colour. The printer will be used to print reports and statements for COMESA.

"Xerox South Africa is ready to deliver in the printing needs of sub-Sahara Africa and the deal with COMESA demonstrates that we can do it," concludes Van Wyk.
