Xerox takes lead in Segments 3 and 5 of multifunction market

Johannesburg, 29 Sep 2006

Xerox, distributed to 24 sub-Saharan countries by Bytes Document Solutions, has emerged as a leader in the office monochrome copier market, capturing 25.7% of the Segment 3 market (40 to 59 pages per minute (ppm)) and 34.7% of the Segment 5 market (90+ ppm).

At the end of its 2006 first quarter, company results revealed year-on-year growth of 21% in these segments. Leading products include the CopyCentre, WorkCentre and WorkCentre Pro 245 and 255 and the Xerox 4110.

"In 2005 Xerox introduced 18 new devices to its growing line of digital copier-printers and MFDs, giving customers an array of more than 80 office products to meet specific business needs," says Rob Abraham, MD of Bytes Document Solutions.

"These new systems present speeds that span 32 to 75ppm, are easier for IT administrators to manage on the network and offer features designed to help people create and handle documents more efficiently. Essentially, they help people do better work."

The Xerox 4110, the leader in Segment 5, was launched in September 2005 and has been the company`s entry-level production flagship product to date.

It offers high image quality, ease of use and productivity at competitive price points. It has the fastest dual-head scanner for the light production market and can produce diverse jobs such as maps, booklets and direct mail pieces. It can scan to file, mailbox and e-mail to enable organisations to store and distribute files electronically.

"Xerox devices are specifically engineered to meet the most stringent requirements of both IT managers and end-users," Abraham says. "They are simple for administrators to install and maintain; and they provide a wide range of features to tackle any job, making users more productive. The newly released devices, and those still being developed, solidify Xerox`s office line as one of the broadest and most comprehensive in the industry, serving every segment of the business market."

With document security a point of concern for organisations today, all of Xerox`s new MFDs and copiers provide security features that allow customers to restrict access, track use and protect confidential information that flows through the devices.

Adding a layer of security to the document workflow, the WorkCentre and WorkCentre Pro MFDs encrypt data travelling on the network to ensure that unauthorised viewers do not have access to scanned documents en route to file servers or other network repositories.

"With 95% of all Xerox products having been completely refreshed over the past 24 months, the first half of 2006 saw Xerox`s office printers, copiers and MFDs earning 146 honours and awards worldwide from leading IT testing and research organisations such as Buyers Laboratory, Industry Analysts and Better Buys for Business," Abraham says.

"Xerox products are consistently rated among the world`s best by these independent organisations. The company received three `Pick of the Year` awards from Buyers Laboratory for the Phaser 7760 tabloid colour laser printer and the WorkCentre Pro 232 and 238 systems that copy, print, scan and fax. Whether a business focuses on time-critical transactional documents or delivering the latest publishing application on demand, having the freedom, flexibility and power to create the document types you need, when you need them and where you need them is essential."
