Xerox, distributed throughout sub-Saharan Africa by Bytes Document Solutions, has upgraded its wide-format colour printer server and introduced three media selection tools in a drive to boost profit growth in the printing industry.
These enhancements were designed to help print providers better meet market demand for large full-colour posters, banners and point-of-purchase signs, while improving efficiency, reducing costs and decreasing waste.
"Providing printer professionals with the right technology to drive wide-format business is the rationale behind the new enhancements," says Alewyn van Staden, product manager: wide format at Bytes Document Solutions.
"Whether it is producing indoor or outdoor product signage, movie posters or a banner for a ribbon cutting ceremony, customers can find compelling opportunities to profit in this growing market, provided they have the technological support to back them. Printer professionals are increasingly using digital wide-format technology as an alternative to more complex and time-consuming production methods such as screen printing."
The improved wide-format Caldera RIPs drive images to the Xerox 8160/8142 systems and a host of other, non-Xerox wide format colour printers, allowing print providers to preview colour changes prior to printing. Other enhancements allow users to position or rotate images for maximum paper use; save job settings for use at a later time; integrate the 8160/8142 with existing wide-format equipment; and ensure colour accuracy by printing the right colours on the right paper the first time using pre-programmed profiles.
The three new wide-format media selection tools were designed to assist with the selection of the right paper for a print job. Xerox`s Wide Format Swatchbook showcases the full range of Xerox supplies available for the graphic arts inkjet market. The book includes paper samples and instructions on how each product handles each medium, including product specifications, machine compatibility and operating instructions. The enhanced Wide Format Paper and Specialty Media Display Graphics Applications Guide covers how each paper handles image quality and durability of graphics. It also provides tips about shelf life, storage requirements, and application ideas and procedures.
"Print providers who need immediate help selecting the right paper for a job can access the Wide Format Inkjet Media Online Selector Tool on Xerox`s Web site at www.xerox.co.za," Van Staden says. "The tool evaluates the type of application and desired ink, and quickly generates suggestions for the best media to suit the job."
